THE PROPERTY
Relajarse has two houses - one owned by a retired firefighter from Kansas City and the other owned by a retired Army 1st sergeant from Minneapolis. We are a decompression retreat for first responders, military personnel, teachers and nurses (active and retired) offering discounts for those that serve or served in their communities.
On-site we have a 10x4 meter pool and a large Rancho (large thatched roof pavilion) where we'll host activities such as pickleball, bocce ball, spike ball, kadima, futsol, surf exercises, yoga, massage therapy, stretching and meditation. Guests are free to use our workout equipment such as kettlebells, bands, yoga mats and blocks. Comfortable living room sets are available for hanging out, reading, and relaxing. The Rancho is well ventilated with high powered oscillating fans, making it enjoyable in the hotter summer months. Our 100” pull-down screen is ideal for watching futbol/football, rugby and other sports and games.
Each house has two large en-suite bedrooms with a well-equipped kitchen and living room space with a 65” TV on the first floor. Living and kitchen areas are air conditioned, as well as the bedrooms. Upstairs you will find two large en-suite bedrooms, also with AC, but they share an outdoor well-equipped kitchen and living room – Costa Rican style! Enjoy the ocean breeze while working in your kitchen, which includes a refrigerator, induction cook tops, air fryer, microwave, blender, and more.
All bedrooms feature top of the line mattresses for a great night's sleep. Each floor has a queen along with a European style king, which can comfortably sleep three adults. We also have sofa sleepers in the living rooms on the first floor of each home. The downstairs of each house can comfortably sleep four in beds, with the ability to sleep 5-7 total. The upstairs bedrooms rent individually and the downstairs of each house can rent as a two bedroom unit, allowing six total units on-site.
Relajarse offers off-street, secured parking and Starlink internet service for you to stay connected if you so choose.
THE COMMUNITY
Las Baulas National Marine Park is home to leatherback turtles that lay their eggs on the beach. Playa Grande is home to a pristine beach that has no exterior illumination and is a surfer's and beach goer's delight. Our neighborhood, Palm Beach Estates, features a surf shop, restaurants, bars, cafes, and a small grocery store all within a short walk from each other. The restaurants offer unique Costa Rican dishes as well as American flavors. Many establishments feature live music on different nights of the week.
We are five minutes from the quaint town of Playa Grande where you'll discover restaurants, a beach club and tennis/pickleball club, a brewery, boutique hotels, local vendors, retail and surf shops and a produce stand.
Tamarindo, located just across the estuary, is a lively surf town with restaurants, bars, and night clubs where the fun is plentiful. Hop on a panga (a short boat ride) for only a couple of bucks to go shopping, bar hopping, visit the Saturday morning and Thursday night markets and participate in various activities such as scuba, sunset cruises, fishing, ATV, zip line, white water rafting, and more. We offer shuttle service, eliminating the need for car rental if you choose.
Playa Flamingo/Portrero
Thirty minutes north of Relajarse, this popular expatriate area is a great place to hang out, enjoy excellent food and take in sunsets. Visit the new marina where you’ll find big boats, bigger buildings and more restaurant and sunset options. Playa Flamingo is home to arguably the best scuba outfitter in Costa Rica, along with big sport fishing and other activities.
Playa Flamingo features the beautiful beach Playa Conchal, with turquoise water and fine shells that give you a pedicure while walking on the soft coarse sandy beach. Playa Conchal is also an excellent snorkeling beach and a perfect spot to picnic – enjoy a rum & pineapple drink and rent some shade from a local vender.
Playa Avellanas, also known as “Little Hawaii" is a spectacular beach located 40 minutes south of Relajarse. Here you’ll find killer waves and a local eatery to relax and chill.
Guachapelin is located two hours north of Relajarse or 45 minutes from Liberia airport. Nestled in the mountains, you'll find cooler temps, seven stunning waterfall hikes, canopy trees, mud baths, hot springs, breathtaking vistas, horseback riding and mountain biking.
La Fortuna is a 3.5 hour drive to the east on your way to San Jose. Here you’ll find the Arenal Volcano. This area is known for its awesome vibe with the best activities. We highly recommend an outfitter called Marquique, a super fun, generationally owned family business. Canyoneering is a must! They also offer white water rafting, zip lining, night hikes, along with other activities.
Nosara, a village on the Nicoya Peninsula, is a two hour drive south. Known for tasty waves and even tastier eateries, our favorite place to stay is Casa Blanca Nosara, owned by a Kansas City local and O’Hara High School graduate.
